Thermally Modified Posts & Timbers Do Exist

Though not widely recognized or promoted, thermally modified posts and timbers are an exceptional choice for manufacturing playsets, gazebos, garden structures, and more. Thanks to its enhanced dimensional stability, thermally modified wood remains unaffected by changes in humidity, making it an ideal material for exterior applications.

Durable & Stable

The modification process produces a dimensionally stable wood that resists expansion and contraction, making it warp, twist, and cup-resistant. It boasts a Class 1 durability rating (25+ years) and offers exceptional rot, decay, and insect resistance. When longevity and weather resistance matter, thermally modified wood is an ideal solution.

Easy Handling

Thermally modified wood can be handled and used just like natural wood. Its low moisture content makes it easy to cut and machine. For the best results and clean cuts, use fine-tooth carbide-tipped saws at higher power. When fastening, we recommend self-tapping screws, spiral shank nails, or pre-drilling holes when using exterior-grade screws or nails.

Thermally modified wood can be painted, stained, or left unfinished. For staining, opt for a micro-oil or nanotechnology stain such as Sansin or Cutek. If painting, oil-based paints with low viscosity provide the best finish.

Low Maintenance

Modified wood requires minimal upkeep, aside from occasional cleaning. Like all wood, it will change color over time when exposed to the elements. Thermally modified wood naturally ages to a beautiful silver patina. If you'd prefer to preserve its rich brown appearance, applying a UV-protectant coating every few years is recommended. Safe & Sustainable

Pressure-treated wood and composite materials can be harmful to both people and the environment. In contrast, thermally modified wood is completely chemical-free and fully sustainable. It can be disposed of just like any natural wood product—burn it, shred it for mulch, or compost it. Additionally, it’s a more eco-friendly option than using old-growth cedar or tropical hardwoods. And did we mention that ThermaPro Wood is grown and manufactured right here in the U.S.A.?
